It's 2020.

The New York based synthpop duo, Great Good Fine Ok, just released their latest single, "2020." What better way to celebrate the New Year than listening to music and drinking beer created in the city where the ball drops? You don't need to go to the city if the city comes to you! "We're not getting any younger now. Don't tell me that you're ready to try cause it's 2020." One of the most widely available craft beers from New York City is The Brooklyn Brewery's Brooklyn Lager. It's an easy-drinking dry-hopped amber lager you can enjoy all night long on New Year's Eve. "It's a little too late for you to notice. I needed you. I was at my lowest but now you gotta disappear." Bring on the New Year! Whether this last decade was full of good times and excitement or if it was muddled with mistakes, we can learn from our actions. Here's to the best decade yet. Song: 2020 Album: Single A...

My heart is armed and dangerous.

It's easier to just hide your feelings. "My heart is armed and dangerous." "Armed and Dangerous" by Chaos Chaos tells us you'll win fights if you don't show your emotions. Good craft beers also often hide who they are. You expect one thing and get something completely different than what was branded. "Feel the beat and take the heat. I will defeat your heart of war." But that's not a bad thing. Some people love bitter beers but many people don't like that hoppy taste so brewer's found ways to make strong hoppy beers that don't taste bitter. Often, they use citrus fruits in the recipe. That's what Samuel Adams did with their Rebel IPA . This IPA was first brewed for IPA lovers but shortly after came a few other variations of the beer including the Rebel Juiced IPA. Today, Sam Adams still distributes the Rebel Grapefruit IPA, described by the brewery as, a beer with "a hint of juiciness rounds (bringing) a refresh...

Put the bud in my ear.

There's no better way to celebrate the holidays than drinking good beer, eating good eats, listening to good music, and spending time with the ones you love. Holiday ales, lagers, and sours brewed with cinnamon and other spices have spiked in popularity in the last two years but one brewery noticed the trend more than 10 years ago. Shiner Holiday Cheer is described by Spoetzl Brewery as an "old-world Dunkelweizen…brewed with Texas Peaches and roasted pecans". The tastes are subtle but if you take the time to enjoy the aromas of this beer, you can absolutely taste the peaches and pecans. When you get to your second glass, the flavors actually start to grow and become even more powerful; you start to taste the pecans were indeed roasted once you notice the backbone of a smoky tang. To guide you through your tastebuds' holiday adventure, Shiner has actually created a playlist of their own but here's one more song to get you into the holiday spirit with a much ...

We're dancing people.

"Purple Hat" by the EDM-rock duo, Sofi Tukker, is as beautiful as a lactose sour. "Purple hat, cheetah print, dancing on the people…rolled up at the after joint, dancing, dancing on the people…people dancing on the people. I got people on the people, people." Right away, this song gets as hype and weird as any alternative song can be but you can't help but dance. In a way, the song is like a sour beer. Sours are pretty weird but they are often fresh and full of flavor surprises. "Everybody in the booth, can tell myself apart from you, now that we're dancing people." Then you hear a beautiful voice to slow the song down making this new alternative hit enjoyable to listen to on repeat. That's the lactose of the song. No matter the style, lactose in beers really smooths them out and it's hard to just have one. "See me see you dancing on the people. Climb up on the booth, hanging from the people on the people. My head hits t...

I just wanna be the best.

RaR Brewing has been "proudly brewing since the summer of 2013 with no intentions of slowing down." "I just wanna be the best." Maryland has become a competitive market for craft beer but that has not stopped RaR from getting their name known by great strides with some new creative beers and fun marketing ideas. "Me, I wanna walk a little bit taller. Me, I wanna feel a little bit stronger. Me, I wanna think a little bit smarter. Said I just wanna be the best." Firstly, they started out with just some solid beers. They were not crazy but they were so great and smooth that they have become go-to beers for Maryland locals. Those are their Nanticoke Nectar IPA, Country Ride Pale Ale, and Groove City Hefeweizen. These early beers set the foundation of the brewery's sights. They knew they could become something bigger just like AWOLNATION. Their new single, "The Best" is simply just about that…becoming the best. AWOLNATION is not a norma...

You were in the kitchen cutting up a rug.

Happy Thanksgiving! While reading this post, listen to the brand new song by Caamp, "Peach Fuzz," a folky rock song with beach vibes. Although it's Turkey Day, let's talk about Friendsgiving. In other words…any house party with strangers and mutual friends between you and them. In particular, there is one stranger that has caught your eye. "I was in the corner drinking from the punch. You were in the kitchen cutting up a rug. No need to complicate it…I had fallen in love." They stand alone in the kitchen. They're mysterious. You ask a friend if they know the stranger. They tell you their name but that's about it. Your friend is asked to join a drinking game. At this point, you're just staring at your phone and pretending you still have punch in your cup. They're enjoying the music and dancing to themselves. It's a little weird but you like that. You glance at them. They glance at you. You walk over and ask if they would like a fest...

When things aren't getting bad, look out, they might be getting worse.

White Reaper has been taking over the radio lately with a refreshing sound that takes you back when rock & roll was king. At the time, Big Beer ruled all. There were a lot of lager drinkers at the time. Lagers are great for rock shows too. They are easy to drink and won't put you on your ass when your roaming the mosh pits. Now, onto what lager should be paired with White Reaper's biggest hit so far, "Might Be Right." "I woke up with a curse. I was searching. I was looking through the purse taking measures to defend me 'cause you swore you'd always treat me like a friend." You're a spy and not a good one. You're someone that can't be trusted. But then again, who can be? We now live in an age where not having information means you're probably hiding something. "I suppose it simply wasn't meant to be. Well, my mother told me first. She said when things aren't getting bad, look out, they might be getting worse....
