Black thoughts come!

Image
"Black thoughts, they come like a gun on the hip, like a kiss on the lips. Doors shut no matter what. Black thoughts come!" "Kid Midnight" by the underrated band, IRONTOM, is dark, fiery, and when watching the music video , a little insane. It starts out with some extremely heavy and hardcore strings followed by some even more hardcore vocals and lyrics. The chorus, however, gives a little bit of light to the nightmare sounds. "Hello, my name is Kid Midnight. The sky is mine. I'm Kid Midnight. All I wanna be is something better than me. I am Kid Midnight and it's almost sunset." A smoked porter is the perfect type of beer to match with the evil sounds of this punk-rock song. Try the Smoked Porter by Alaskan Brewing Company, Epic Brewing Company, or Stone Brewing. All three are excellent and well established breweries but this post needed a few options as these are a little harder to come by. If you have never heard IRONTOM before and you...

Hit the road.

The Black Keys always have a classic rock feel to their songs. There is no exception when it comes to their three newest hits, "Lo/Hi,""Eagle Birds," and now their latest single, "Go." These songs are teasing the upcoming album, "Let's Rock" which is set to release on June 28. "In the summer time, when it's hot outside, the streets are bare, there's no one there, and the valley is wide. There comes a time two hearts of gold live together, run forever on the open road. They gotta go. They gotta go."   "Go" fits perfectly alongside with the other singles released thus far but with a slight twist. Yes, the duo almost exclusively uses guitar, drums, and vocals like most of their songs but the beat to this is a little different. The strings snap back much like in ska. "In the winter time, when the day is long, you're halfway there, the field is bare, and the fire is gone. Are you all alone? Are you feeling...

My life was fleeting, then I found you.

You had a bad day. You may have just broke up, injured yourself, got in an accident, or maybe you just had a tough day at work. Either way, we've all been there. On top of everything else, the weather just sucks. "Look, look and see. Just look how bad these last few years were to me. They brought me lower than you'd ever believe." Pasion Pit The Anthem, Washington, DC The answer? A simple Belgian-style wheat beer can do the trick. Allagash White is a refreshing treat during the hot and sweaty days but has enough substance to warm you up during the freezing nights too. Allagash White is extremely drinkable. Ahh. Now life is okay. You can stop worrying about the troubles in your life and start focusing on everything that is right in the world. You're hanging out with your friends and having a great time. You realize you have the best friends ever. And all of a sudden, the weather is durable…maybe even enjoyable. After all, you found your beer! "Lif...

I gave myself to the city.

For the most part, Two Door Cinema Club plays light hearted and softer songs, yet fast and dance-worthy. They're trying something new and it's awesome. Their next album, False Alarm, is expected to drop June 21, and as it goes for the new music they have released so far, it's much different. It's darker, deeper, faster, catchier, and head-banging. This especially holds true for their latest single, "Dirty Air," a song about loving the city for all of its faults. "I gave myself to the city. I wanna breathe dirty air. I got myself real pretty. I fixed up my hair." Yes, the city isn't necessarily safe, but it sure is entertaining. Pull up a chair and enjoy the show while drinking Furious, an IPA by Surly Brewing Company, found mostly in the Midwest. "I'll give you fire, fire, fire, fire. Smoking, broken windows, limbos…anything you wanna try. The sky is falling, so pull up a chair. Everyone's watching like nobody cares." Th...

My face is just my face.

AJR isn't so weird. Oh wait… "So if I break my face, and I don't look so great. My face is just my face." But seriously… This song is dope. It sounds like if trumpets met a deep R&B backdrop. But then the lyrics come in and it sounds like the best of any great AJR song. As weird as AJR's lyrics can be, there is often a hidden meaning. You'll notice that most of the lyrics in "Break My Face" tell us that as bad as things get, there is often a bright side to the side effects. And life can get pretty gloom. "You run your mouth. Your tongue fell out. It's right there on the ground. But now, you'll never drown. You can't, you got no mouth. So it ain't all bad now." This dark comedy calls for a smooth and dark stout. Duck-Rabbit's Milk Stout, found mostly in the Southeast of the United States, is the perfect beer to enjoy while listening to AJR's cleverly worded and sounding song. Song: Br...

I've got the sweetest living recipe.

Listen to "Recipe" by Wild Party and you'll be reminded that life is good. The world is not perfect but you're happy with what you got and couldn't ask for more. People will try to tear you down but you don't care what they have to say. "Stop crumbling. Their words didn't matter. Oh well, just forget it, we know we're only going up." You're taking risks—risks that people do not agree with. But you know in order to succeed in life, you must be brave. Failure is an option because if you want want to be the best, you must learn from your actions. "Never gonna hit the breaks too slow—even if we make mistakes we know that all we got is all we have so no we're never gonna look back and think of how I run the worst sometimes." But you won't fail alone. Yes, the common person will judge you but no-one understands you like the people who love you. They will support you and as long as you have your friends and loved ones aro...

Maybe only gold is flawless.

Max Frost shows his funky sounds in his new single, "Money Problems" and it makes you sway your body from side to side. It's only fitting to listen to this song while sipping on some Funk Sway by Jailbreak Brewing. The Key Lime Berliner Weisse by the brewery based out of Maryland is a little sweet, a little sour, and one hundred percent refreshing. It's the perfect beer to cheer you up on a miserable humid day. "I got nothing in my pockets. Tell me baby; do you judge me. I got money problems." We've all been there. We've had to buy whatever is affordable. Our possessions are nothing special and definitely don't stand out. If they are noticeable, it's usually not for a good reason. "My car's a rental; not presidential. I got no diamonds on the doors of my house. Above my level; you're something special and I know I gotta get you somehow." But even with the worse money problems, you'll still find a way to drink tha...
